‘Jumbo’ is another of the three new varieties of Fargesia murieliae that we are delighted to present. Like its sister bamboos, ‘Simba’ and ‘Bimbo’, ‘Jumbo’ was selected at the Danish Thyme Nurseries. ‘Jumbo’ has green canes and delicate, fresh-green leaves, slightly wider than the species. It makes a thick, bushy plant or a softly undulating, arched hedge and will grow in almost any position in the garden. Like many fargesias, ‘Jumbo’ has a clever trick of rolling up its leaves to minimise moisture loss when it begins to dry out. As soon as we see those rolled leaves, we get out our watering can.
