Description
Height: 2 metres
Common Name: Hardy Dragon Bamboo
This exceptionally hardy bamboo comes from the mountain forests of China where it grows at an altitude of up to 2,230 metres. Its young shoots are an important food for one of the world’s most distinctive animals, the giant panda. A clumping variety, it expands slowly and in a mannerly fashion. Its dark-green, dense foliage makes it ideal for an impenetrable hedge which arches over gracefully at the top. Unlike some Fargesia species it may be grown in the sun without the leaves curling. The solid culms can be cut and used as garden stakes.
