Pleioblastus variegatus

Height: 0.8 to 1.2 metres

Common Name: Dwarf Whitestripe

The eye-catching Dwarf Whitestripe is perhaps the best of all the white-variegated bamboos, with its slightly zig-zagged culms and jazzily-striped dark-green leaves standing stiffly out from the stems. This low species forms a dense thicket, but it not as thuggish as some of its relatives. It is easily controlled by judicious uprooting. Grow it in a border, as groundcover, as a soil stabiliser or in a pot. It will thrive in sun or shade, but the delightfully showy blue-green and white stripes are more pronounced in sunlight.
