Drepanostachyum hookerianum

Height: 4 to 5 metres

Another basket-weaving bamboo, this one is cultivated in East Nepal at an elevation of up to 2,500 metres. Again, it is clump-forming, producing upright canes with a mass of delicate foliage - pale blue-green on the surface and matt sea-green on the underside. Its culms have a fascinating richness of colour, starting off a deep rose tone and maturing to a golden-yellow with lime-green striations. The colour of the emerging culms is best in sun, but the plant is equally happy in semi-shade. We like to show it off as a specimen plant, planted solo or in a container. It looks particularly well in the conservatory.
