This hardy, upright, spreading bamboo comes from the mountainous regions of central and northern Honshu and southern Hokkaido. The dark-green canes are flushed with purple and bear long, slim leaves. Grow this hardy bamboo as a distinctive hedge or as a foliage plant in a mixed border. It thrives anywhere except in deep shade.
