Fargesia utilis Height: May grow to 5 metres The culms of this Fargesia, at 2 centimetres, are the largest in diameter of any in cultivation now. And as far as we know, this admirable plant with its narrow, blue-green leaves and mature, arching, purple canes is also the tallest of the genus. "Utilis", the species name means useful, and we certainly find it invaluable for planting in damp, shady corners where it soon makes a large clump. We think it looks a treat with other bluish foliage plants like the large-leaved hostas.
